Teletape has come a long way from being an equipment rental company. It currently houses two state-of-the-art Avid Media Composer 1000 editing systems and a Pro Tools to cater to the growing advertisement, corporate films and movie market.
S. Saravanan, S. Sundaresan and Renold Benjamin Antonio (Benny) the present owners of Teletape believe that in the today's competitive market technology gives the edge over competition.
Though advertisements, documentaries and corporate films are its mainstay, Teletape has also edited movies like 'Mahanadi', 'Velan', 'Narasimha' and 'Majnu'.
It has edited the trailers of many movies as well, the latest being Jeeva's directorial debut '12B'. It has also worked on regional language dubs of Hollywood movies like 'Species' and Tamil versions of hit television series like 'Ramayan' and 'Mahabharath'.
Among its clients from the advertising field are Ogilvy & Mather, HTA, Lintas and Rediffusion among others. And their recent work includes promos for the newly launched Star Vijay channel, a corporate film for ETA, a Dubai based company and many ad films.
Teletape bought the first official Avid from Real Image Media Technologies after seeing a demo at the American consulate. "The user-friendly operating system of Avid editing systems is so easy to use that an editor used to a linear system can learn it in a day. It was a thrilling experience to work on a non-linear system after working on a linear system." says Mr. Saravanan who started his career as an editor.
Comparing linear editing systems and Avid non-linear editing systems he said, "For the linear editing systems, anyone who went to Singapore would buy a full set of spare parts as they were not available in India. And when the system broke down the work would come to a grinding halt. With Avid we do not have to stock up on spares as there are no moving parts and even if there is a rare problem we can always connect the hard disk to another machine and continue to work."
This prompted them to opt for Avid systems again when they expanded operations.
The trio heading Teletape have plans to make it a one-stop shop for all client requirements.
There are now 2 editing suites with Avid systems and a recording studio with Pro Tools for voiceovers.
And recently, one Media Composer 1000 was upgraded from a version 5 to a version 10.
In the near future, clients will also be able to do the special effects for their ad and corporate films at Teletape.
