Digidesign ICON Reaches Milestone Sales Figure 1,000th Console Goes to Disney |
Digidesign announced in April, a milestone sales figure for its ICON integrated console environment. The ICON|D-ControlTM and ICON|D-CommandTM digital consoles - which provide seamless control and integration with the Digidesign® Pro Tools® platform - have surpassed 1,000 units in sales worldwide since they began shipping in 2004. This benchmark further attests to the acceptance of ICON as the new standard in digital consoles, spanning the realms of music, broadcast, and postproduction.
The 1,000th unit (a 48-fader dual-operator D-Control) was sold to Walt Disney Pictures and Television for installation on the dub stage used this season to mix the hit television show "Lost." Disney has long been considered one of the leaders in state-of-the-art sound, and the decision to switch over to the ICON system was made by Gil Gagnon, vice president of postproduction services for Walt Disney Pictures and TV.
"Choosing an ICON was the right decision for us. In fact, we chose three," says Gagnon. "We're currently upgrading three of our stages with ICON consoles as the right tool for the demands of those particular stages. We have had tremendous success with our [Digidesign] ProControl® stage over the last five years, and this will only further complement the variety of solutions we can offer our clients."
Disney's total investment in the ICON platform is significant, and currently includes a dual-operator, 48-fader D-Control; a dual-operator, 48-fader D-Command; and a 24-fader, single-operator D-Command system.
"We've seen some amazing ICON adoption stories over the past year," says Digidesign ICON sales director Rich Nevens. "In addition to significant sales to industry leaders like Disney, ICON was used to mix the Oscar® nominated films Good Night, And Good Luck; Syriana; Hustle and Flow; and The New World - in addition to mixing all of the live music for this year's Grammy® Awards. ICON has built a proven track record in a very short time and we're thrilled that Disney has now made it a part of its audio postproduction workflow."
Other recent ICON installations include Warner Brothers, Universal Studios, Microsoft Studios, Ascent Media, Dubbing Brothers, Margarita Mix, Post Logic, and Resonate.
